DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

Hyperlight encompasses a lot of different themes I'm most passionate about: the impact of technology on mankind, self-sacrifice and love. I’ve always kept an eye out for events that have the potential to reshape our world. From those, I imagined a narrative that not only captures our imagination but also makes us question humanity’s future.

In this story, humanity will create the FTL technology needed to explore the stars. However, the moment that technology gets created means that our world will forever change, opening up endless possibilities and realities. I was inspired by scientific extrapolations that stems from real world possibilities. In 2018, there are plans for a working fusion reactor that could be operational within the next few years. That technology, once fully harnessed, could provide humanity with an endless supply of energy, which could in turn allow faster-than-light space travel to be possible. 

However, at its core, this is the story about the lengths to which one person will go to in order to save someone she loves, in the midsts of extraordinary circumstances.
